May 23  06

Weather - the morning was a blue bird day with light wind out of the south we had a thunder storm roll in after lunch. 55/F

May 21 - 22 06

Weather - 21st was a blue bird day with winds out of the south east temp 45/F 22nd was over cast with sunny periods wind out of the south temp 55/F

The winds were out of the south for the past two days. The birds were on the move north again this made for some great hunting. Jack Morris and my self were live on WCCO radio from Minneapolis last night we did an on air field report. Tomorrow is the last day of hunting  and they are calling for south winds again. The hunters should be in for a great last day.

May 19 -20 06

Weather - low clouds all day very strong winds out of the N  temp/35F

The winds were very strong for two days straight  and the birds went south again. With the strong winds and cold temperatures it made for some very challenging hunting. The birds that were trying to fly north were still low and slow however the birds retreating south seemed as if they were flying at 80 MPH. So it took the hunters a bit to get the lead on the birds down but they still had a couple of days of good hunting.

May 17-18 06

Weather - low clouds in the morning clearing in the after noon strong winds out of the NE  temp/35F

The geese were flying low and slow today. Heavy winds hold them close to the ground when they are trying to fly. Looks like we are going to get some winds out of the south for the next couple of days and that will get them moving north again. We had a black bear come into camp tonight and lucky for me it is spring bear season up here. Above is a picture of the bear I shot with Jack Morris the baseball player from Minneapolis and Paul Robey a long time guest of ours.

Weather - low clouds in the morning clearing in the after noon strong winds out of the NE  temp/35F and 40F in the afternoon

The geese could not decide what they were doing today. For every couple groups of birds heading north there was a group heading back south. We had them coming and going all at the same time.  There is a lot of cold and snowy weather up the coast so I think it will hold the birds here for another week or so.

May 15 06

Weather - low clouds with snow winds out of the NE again temp/35F

Well the snow arrived and the geese stayed on the ground for most of the morning. More birds started to retreat to the south around 2:00 and the hunters were able to get in some more great shooting.. Looks like the weather may clear in the next couple days. This should get some of the birds heading north again..

May 13 -14  06

Weather - Clear blue sky with winds high out of the N  temp/38F

The birds have started to retreat to the south so all the birds we have been shooting at for the last couple days on there way north have started come back south. This is one of the great things about hunting at Dymond lake. their  must be a storm coming down from the artic.

Weather - Clear blue sky with winds out of the NE temp/45F

After dropping off a Japanese film crew at North Knife Lake to film our local wolf family we headed into Dymond Lake to get ready for our spring hunt. Guest start arriving tonight and they should be happy as the birds are all over the coast. I don't think the timing could get any better.

Around 40,000 white geese flew over Thompson today on there way to Churchill Manitoba. I will be heading up on Thursday and they should be there waiting for me. Churchill is their last staging ground before they nest. They hang out there until the ice starts to melt ( around the last week in May ) and they fly back and forth all day looking for open water on the coast.
